Wedding Trends: Spring 2010

You are going to be seeing a lot of weddings focused on "Something old" this year. Why? Because vintage is in. So is being eco-friendly.... so buying brand new, land-filling wedding decor is so ten years ago.

So be modern! Show off your vintage charm.

My wedding was last June, and I like to think I started this trend. But I didn't. I was one of the first to jump in, but my little wedding wasn't recorded in Martha Stewart Weddings or anything like that, inspiring the brides of 2010. Please note that when I provide any photos from my own wedding, they were captured by Jarnagin Photography.

I'm going to talk about three major trends focusing around vintage and eco-friendly.

1. Milk Glass

Vintage milk glass is going to be big in 2010! And is there any doubt why? It's pristine, luxurious, and WHITE! I accidently used milk glass vases in my wedding when the tall carafe style vases I picked out for my giant mums had too wide of neck to support the buds. My florist recommended the milk glass vases she had tucked away, and they worked beautifully. The vintage-loving bride of 2010 will definitely want to consider having milk glass vases at her wedding.

Curious about where to buy them? Chances are your local florist has them tucked away in their basement or attic just waiting to be used again in your dream wedding. But if they made the mistake of selling them or throwing them away, you can find milk glass at numerous other places. Your best bet for finding a lot at once would be to go to local flea markets, antique stores, or estate sales. If that's not your thing, there are plenty of vintage shops on Etsy that sell milk glass. This trio pictured is from the seller stellabystar and costs only $17+shipping.

2. Teacups and Teapots

For my wedding, I used teacups and saucers to hold little individually wrapped mint flavored chocolates on each table. Browsing through wedding magazines, I've seen many uses for teacups and teapots. I've seen some beautiful neutral colored teapots with bright colored flowers as centerpieces, or floral pots with neutral flowers. Teacups also make whimsical tealight or votive candle holders. Your florist is very unlikely to keep any of these on hand, so this is something you would have to provide yourself. Once again, search flea markets, antique stores, estate sales, or Etsy for these. This lovely set is from the seller trillity and is priced at $68.

3. Vintage Accessories

My "Something Borrowed" for my wedding was my mother's 1982 bridal veil. I loved it. It was completely unlikely the "pooping tulle out of the back of your head" veils of today. Chances are your mother's veil has either been lost or has turned yellow. If that is the case, I suggest going for a birdcage veil or a blusher with vintage hair accessories. These vintage pins are a perfect addition to a minimal veil. The are on Etsy from the seller OhFaro and cost $32+shipping. However, you are likely to find a vintage piece you love at one of those vintage shops, flea markets, or estate sales!

My necklace was one of the first things I bought on Etsy. It was from the seller YouAreMySunshine, whose shop is filled with delight after delight. This style of necklace is going to be big for bridal and comes in many more colors than ivory! Don't be afraid to go bold. This particular necklace is $40+shipping.

I hope these three wedding trends inspired you! And just for fun, here's a few more vintage inspirations from my wedding.
